Truth and Beauty

Our Laura Jane is now holding hands with Jesus.

The day after her last post, she did make it to the hospital for treatment and surgery involving her lungs. In the process, doctors discovered the cancer spread much further than anyone realized. All expected her to bounce back from surgery and begin more aggressive chemo. But for no apparent reason her liver failed after the surgery.

As she slowly faded from this world over the next several days, she was surrounded by love. Friends held her hands and recounted fun adventures together. Her precious children, Emily and Joe, heard directly from their mother how incredibly much she loved both of them. And in an amazing show of God's grace, Laura Jane's husband returned home and she and Chad expressed their love for eachother.

She was a picture of courage and strength in her final week with us. She slipped into the arms of Jesus full of peace in her heart and joy on her face in the first hour of Saturday, January 22, 2011.

Laura Jane's family wants to thank each of you, whether you knew her in person or merely online, for entering into the beauty of this true story. And we invite you to post a comment to let us and others know how her story has touched you.

To God be the glory.

  1. Laurie, I followed your journey via your blog and your brother Andy. I know you are in heaven now- probably dancing and singing. My wife and I prayed for you many nights. Your life has been an amazing inspiration to me, and I know many others. I read your blog posts and found strength to face giants. You never gave up. You are free now my friend and the world is a better place because you walked through it.

Psalm 116:15 "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints."

    You will be missed dearly.

Much love and comfort to your family Laurie.

Talk to you in heaven someday.... Mark

  2. Laurie, I never met you except through what your father shared about you. He is a man that has been devoted to you in ways, perhaps, you now know best. Brave and sweet is how you always seemed in his eyes. And somehow, I have to believe that's how you saw him, as well. A lovely pair.

  3. What a precious gift it was to know Lauri and the service for her today was a huge blessing and reminder of the joy we will share for eternity...praise be to God for His provision for Laurie and for all of us who believe in Him.

  4. I think the true value of anyone is in the legacy that's left behind after their gone. The length of life, therefore,is only relavent to the impact that was left.Laurie's impact will be widespread and will influence many for years to come. Her courageous battle with cancer amazed everyone. Her determination, faith, and will to live made it possible to dismantle fear and replace it with wonder and,of course, great sense of humor. Her candor was straight forward and sharing her personal feelings with those she trusted posted no problem. The gift of communicating through writing, however, was her signiture gift. And to those who were fortunate enough to read and obsorb her literary talents were truely blessed because you could see how victoriously she coped with adversity. The most significant stamp she made in her Christian walk was expressed in the power of forgiveness and it was here where peace, comfort, and calm reigned. And I believe God's presents and purpose was perfectly orchestrated down to Lauarie's last breath. We're all better off for following her life's story. Love, Neil Hutcheson

  5. Laurie! My sister, I can't believe it's only 5 years since you left. It feels like an eternity. I hope you and Ridge are together-you always made each other laugh. It would be a special peace in my heart if I knew you were caring for him now, and he for you. And thereby, a huge chunk of my heart. Love you. Miss you. Dragonflies decorate my life.
